How to Choose a Reliable Dental Clinic in Turkey: 10 Questions to Ask Before You Book

300+ Dental clinics currently operating in Antalya32+ yrs Our Dentist Abroad has been treating patients in Lara10 Questions every patient should ask before booking£0 Cost of our free pre-treatment consultation

With over 300 dental clinics now operating in Antalya, picking the right one is genuinely tricky. A polished website, a WhatsApp number, a decent set of before-and-after photos, and a clear price list in sterling are no longer markers of quality — they’re the bare minimum for any clinic that wants to attract British patients.

The questions that actually matter are more specific than most people realise. And whether a clinic answers them clearly, or wriggles around them, tells you an enormous amount about the sort of experience you’re likely to have.

Here are the ten questions we’d ask of any clinic — including our own. We answer each one ourselves at the end, because we think you deserve to see what a genuinely clear, honest answer looks like.

A clinic that’s worth your time will welcome every single one of these questions. A clinic that’s evasive, vague or dismissive about any of them is already giving you the most important answer of all.

The 10 Questions

Question 1: Who, specifically, will be treating me — and what are their qualifications?
Why it matters: Any clinic can say “our experienced team.” What you want to know is whether they can name the individual dentist who will actually treat you, tell you which dental school they attended, describe their postgraduate training, confirm their specialist certifications, and give you a clear sense of their years of practice.Red flag: A clinic that refers to “our team” without ever naming your actual treating dentist. One that hesitates — or point-blank refuses — when you ask for verifiable credentials. Our Dentist Abroad: We provide the full profile of your treating dentist — name, dental school, postgraduate qualifications, specialist certifications and years of practice — before you book. We actively encourage you to check this independently.
Question 2:How long has the clinic been treating international patients?
Why it matters: A clinic can be technically proficient but have almost no experience managing the very specific needs of patients flying in from abroad. Different expectations, different healthcare systems, different aftercare logistics. Knowing how to treat teeth is one thing. Knowing how to properly look after someone who lands on a Monday and flies home on a Friday — that’s something you only learn by doing it properly, year after year.Red flag: A recently opened clinic with no verifiable track record of treating British patients. Vague claims of experience with nothing to back them up.Our Dentist Abroad: Our Dentist Abroad has been treating British patients in Antalya Lara for over 30 years. We have dedicated English-speaking patient coordinators with more than a decade of UK-specific experience.
Question 3: Do you use 3D CBCT scanning for implant cases?
Why it matters: A conventional panoramic X-ray gives a flat, two-dimensional image. A 3D CBCT scan gives the surgeon a complete three-dimensional picture of bone volume, nerve positions and sinus anatomy. For implant planning, this isn’t a luxury — it’s the minimum standard. Any clinic planning implants without proper 3D imaging is working without the information it needs to do the job safely.Red flag: A clinic that confirms it relies solely on panoramic X-ray. Vague answers about “comprehensive imaging” that don’t specify what equipment is actually used. Our Dentist Abroad: We carry out a full 3D CBCT scan for every implant patient, included in the treatment cost as standard. No implant is planned without one.
Question 4: What implant brand will you use in my case?
Why it matters: Not all implants are equal. The titanium fixture placed in your jawbone should ideally last a lifetime, and the brand and manufacturing standard of that fixture directly affects long-term outcomes. Reputable clinics use internationally recognised systems — Straumann, Nobel Biocare, Osstem, Neodent — and will confirm the brand in writing before treatment and document it in an implant passport afterwards.Red flag: Evasiveness about the brand — “we use quality implants” tells you nothing. No written confirmation. No implant passport offered on completion. Our Dentist Abroad: We confirm the exact implant brand and model in writing before your treatment begins. On completion, you receive an implant passport documenting the brand, model and batch number.
Question 5: Can I see a digital preview of my smile before any preparation begins?
Why it matters: For veneers and cosmetic work, Digital Smile Design — or an equivalent digital planning tool — allows you to see precisely what your result will look like before a single tooth is touched. This is the difference between knowingly approving a design and having a permanent change made to your teeth based on nothing more than a description and a promise.Red flag: No digital preview offered. “Trust us” reassurances. Preparation starting on the first day without you having approved a design. Our Dentist Abroad: All veneer and smile makeover cases at Our Dentist Abroad begin with Digital Smile Design. You see the result. You approve it. We build to it.
Question 6: What does your written guarantee actually cover?
Why it matters: A guarantee only really means something when it’s written down clearly, is specific about what it covers, and is backed by a clinic that’s been around long enough to actually stand by it. If a clinic opened in 2022 but is offering a “lifetime guarantee,” it’s perfectly reasonable to question how realistic that commitment actually is. Ask what’s covered, what’s excluded, and what the process is if you need to use the guarantee once you’re back home.Red flag: Vague verbal assurances with nothing in writing. A guarantee from a very recently established clinic with no track record to stand behind it.Our Dentist Abroad: Our guarantee is set out clearly in writing before your treatment begins. For implants, this covers failure or infection related to our treatment — we take responsibility and sort it at no additional cost. For smile makeovers, breakage or noticeable colour change within the guarantee period is also covered. You’ll know exactly what’s included before you agree to anything.
Question 7: Can you provide a written, itemised quote in sterling with no hidden charges?
Why it matters: All-in prices and “package deals” often obscure exactly what is and isn’t included. A transparent clinic provides a line-by-line quote: implant fixture, abutment, crown, 3D scan, consultations, temporary restoration, aftercare. If the quote doesn’t specify these items separately, ask for a proper itemised breakdown.Red flag: Lump-sum prices that don’t specify what’s included. Hidden “consultation fees” or “diagnostic charges” that weren’t in the original quote. Our Dentist Abroad: We provide a fully itemised sterling quote before you agree to anything. The consultation is free. 3D CBCT scanning is included. There are no hidden charges.
Question 8: How is follow-up managed after I’m back in the UK?
Why it matters: This is where a great many patients end up stranded. A clinic that provides excellent in-chair care but has no proper system for remote follow-up is only delivering half a service. You need to know who to contact if something concerns you, how quickly you’ll hear back, and what happens if you need to return for remedial work.Red flag: No clear aftercare protocol. Reliance on WhatsApp with no guaranteed response time. No UK contact option for patients who need it.Our Dentist Abroad: Your patient coordinator remains your point of contact after you return. We respond to all enquiries within 24 hours. For implant patients, we follow up proactively at three months, six months and annually. We have an office in Nottingham for patients who need face-to-face UK contact.
Question 9: Does the clinic hold international accreditation?
Why it matters: International accreditation from bodies such as AACI (American Accreditation Commission International) or JCI involves an independent assessment of clinical standards, infection control, patient safety protocols and documentation practices. It isn’t handed out automatically, and it’s publicly verifiable. Turkish Ministry of Health authorisation for international health tourism is a separate credential, and also verifiable.Red flag: Unverifiable “certificates” or generic quality marks with no named accrediting body. An inability to produce a certificate when asked. Our Dentist Abroad: Our Dentist Abroad holds AACI accreditation and operates under Turkish Ministry of Health authorisation for international health tourism. Both are publicly verifiable.
Question 10: Can I speak to a previous patient before I book?
Why it matters: Any clinic that’s confident in its outcomes and its patient relationships should be able to put you in touch with at least one previous patient who’s happy to share their experience. Written testimonials are useful but curated. A direct, unprompted conversation with a real patient is a different level of reassurance entirely.Red flag: A refusal or an inability to arrange patient contact. Only stock-photo testimonials. No verifiable reviews on independent platforms. Our Dentist Abroad: We maintain a network of patients who’ve agreed to speak with prospective new patients. Ask your patient coordinator — we’ll do our best to sort something out. Our reviews are available on independent platforms for you to check.

What to Do If a Clinic Won’t Answer

This is perhaps the single most important piece of practical advice we can offer: if a clinic is evasive, dismissive or simply unwilling to give you clear answers to any of the questions above, treat that as the answer you needed.

Reputable clinics have nothing to hide about their dentists, their materials, their accreditation or their guarantee terms. The things that separate trustworthy providers from untrustworthy ones are almost always visible before you book — provided you ask the right questions and pay attention to what comes back.

You’re making a decision about your health and your smile that’ll last decades. The twenty minutes it takes to ask these questions — and insist on written answers — is one of the best investments you can make in how the whole thing turns out.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a lower price automatically mean a worse clinic?

Not necessarily — but if a price feels too low even by Turkish standards, it’s worth digging a bit deeper. Treatment in Turkey is more affordable primarily because of lower operating costs, not because clinics are cutting corners on materials or staff. If a clinic’s prices are significantly below the local average, ask specifically about implant brands and material specifications. A straightforward, confident answer is a good sign. Vagueness isn’t.

Do I need to visit in person before I book?

No. A reliable process starts with a remote consultation — photos, X-rays, a treatment plan and a written quote — before you commit to travelling. At Our Dentist Abroad, we provide all of that free of charge within 24 hours of your enquiry. The first in-person appointment is your arrival appointment, at which point we carry out a full clinical assessment before confirming the plan.

What if a clinic has brilliant Google reviews but I still have a nagging doubt?

Google reviews are useful but they can be curated. Have a look at reviews on independent platforms — Trustpilot, Facebook — and check how recently they were posted. Reviews that mention specific procedures and outcomes two or three years on are far more informative than generic praise for “lovely staff.” If in doubt, ask the clinic to put you in touch with a patient directly.

How much should a consultation in Turkey cost?

A reputable clinic will provide an initial remote consultation — including a treatment plan and written quote based on your photos and X-rays — free of charge. Your in-person assessment on arrival should also be included in the treatment cost, not charged separately. Any clinic that wants to charge for a remote consultation before you’ve agreed to any treatment is worth questioning.

Should I sort my own flights and accommodation, or use the clinic?

Either approach works well. Many patients prefer to handle their own travel for the flexibility and cost control. Our patient coordinator can advise on flights, recommend hotels within walking distance of the clinic, and arrange airport transfer at no extra charge. There’s no obligation to use our recommendations — but having a single point of contact can make the whole logistics of the trip considerably simpler.
